Upcoming Careers & Community Engagement Class Activities, May 2012

Here are some upcoming activities that are part of the D2 Center Careers & Community Engagement Class. Students who participate in these activities will earn hours towards a Careers & Community Engagement elective credit. Thurs. May 3, 2012, 3:30-5 PM: First Aid Certification at the D2 Center
– Learn how to save a life and learn more about health careers.

Mon. May 7, 2012, 6-8 PM: Welding / Fabrication Workshop at Metro South Campus, ITC Building Conference Center, 29th & Q Street
– Attend a panel discussion and visit with various welding / fabrication companies, the training school, and financial support agencies.

Tues. May 8, 2012, 3:30-5 PM: Careers and Community Engagement Orientation at the D2 Center
– An introduction to the D2 Center Careers & Community Engagement elective credit class, an opportunity to learn more about career exploration through hands-on workshops throughout the community.

Thurs. May 10, 2012, 5:30-9:30 PM: Emergency Preparedness and Early Childhood Training at Omaha AHEC, 5017 Leavenworth
– Learn the basics of infant and child care and how to react responsibly to medical emergencies.

About Carolyn

Carolyn Miller is one of the directors of the D2 Center. She is a graduate of Omaha Northwest High School and the University of Iowa. Carolyn has returned to Omaha after ten years in Seattle and has a background in technical writing, project and program management in web development and content, online community management, and social media. She is happy to be applying her skills in this new endeavor, working with youth who are re-engaging in a pathway to a high school diploma.
