by | Apr 6, 2016 | General, Meet the Staff

Here is the latest entry in the D2 Center Meet the Staff series. Meet YAN Curtis Morgan!

What’s your role at the D2 Center?

Youth Academic Navigator (YAN)

How long have you worked at the D2 Center?

I started working at the D2 Center in September of 2015 and have been here for 6 months now.

Tell me about your education.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Nebraska Wesleyan University and recently completed my Master’s Degree in Public Administration at Bellevue University.

What is your professional background?

I have been blessed to work with many youth from a variety of backgrounds. Prior to starting at the D2 Center, I served as a Program Director with the Omaha Zoo’s Education Department. I also worked for the Boys and Girls Club as a Site Director for an After-School program. I have a lot of case management experience as well working with youth in mental health and juvenile justice programs in Omaha and Kansas City.

Why were you interested in working at the D2 Center?

I always value the opportunity to help youth be successful and the D2 Center seemed like the perfect place for me to achieve this mission. Education is a vital key to success in this world and the D2 Center has helped many students achieve a high school diploma that may have otherwise dropped out of school. The D2 Center engages students that are not reaching their full potential and helps them reach milestones and accomplishments that will impact their lives forever.

What’s your favorite thing about working at the D2 Center?

My favorite thing about working at the D2 Center is being a resource and connecting at-risk students with important academic and community services. Too many students are not aware of all the different academic and community resources available to them and end up not taking advantage of these valuable opportunities and services.

Tell me about your family.

I was born in Omaha and my mother and two sisters are still living here. I previously lived in Kansas City, MO and moved back to Omaha about 3 years ago with my fiancé and our two sons.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to travel and spend as much time as possible with my family and friends. I also do a lot of volunteering and community service with my fraternity whenever possible.
