D2 Center at the Annual YTFG Meeting, Sept. 27, 2012

by | Sep 28, 2012 | Events, General, NLC Reengagement Network, NLC YEF Institute

Yesterday, co-director Greg Emmel and I shared the D2 Center’s efforts, activities and some early results at the annual Youth Transitions Funders Group (YTFG) annual meeting in Detroit, MI. The YTFG is “a network of grantmakers whose mission is to help all youth make a successful transition to adulthood by age 25.”

Greg and I appeared on a Re-engagement Centers panel with Ken Karamichael, director of New Jersey’s TEEM Gateway. Andrew Moore, Senior Fellow at the National League of Cities Institute for Youth, Education and Families, served as moderator. We know Andrew and Ken from our participation in the NLC YEF Institute Dropout Re-Engagement Network, through which we learn and share best practices with staff from other re-engagement centers around the U.S.

Andrew kicked off the presentation with an overview of re-engagement centers. Then Greg and I spoke about the D2 Center and Ken shared information about TEEM Gateway, which has 3 centers, in Newark, Trenton and Camden. Questions from the YTFG attendees followed.

Read more about the YTFG Annual Meeting and a recap of the event, including a Top 5 (really, 6!) list from Chris Sturgis on the YTFG Connected by 25 blog.

Thank you to our partner at the Sherwood Foundation, Jerry Bexten, who is also co-chair of the YTFG Multiple Pathways to Graduation Work Group, for arranging our participation on yesterday’s panel. Learn more about Jerry on the YTFG website.
