New D2 Center Reading Strategies Class Starting Oct. 3, 2012

by | Sep 28, 2012 | D2 Center Courses, General, Updates

The D2 Center is offering a Reading Strategies class starting October 3, 2012, with a schedule that’s extremely flexible to meet the needs of our students. Students will have the opportunity to earn an elective credit through their ongoing participation every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Certified teacher Dr. Joan Hamilton (Reading & ESL; retired Omaha South Magnet High School) will lead the class assisted by Ms. Dianne Kielniarz (English; retired Omaha Bryan High School).

D2 Center students can receive individualized instruction every Wednesday (2:30-5:30 p.m.) and Thursday (1:00-6:00 p.m.) at the D2 Center. The class is flexible so students can choose when they attend and for how long based on their own personal schedules. Students can start the class at any point in time based on their needs, since instruction is individualized. Students who are working on credits in any educational setting (traditional high school, Independent Study, Accelere, or other alternative settings) can bring assignments involving reading comprehension and receive 1:1 assistance as a part of the Reading Strategies class. Metro bus passes are available to students for transportation to or from the D2 Center. To sign up for the class, please call D2 Center Director Greg Emmel at 402-502-8534 (office) or call or text 402-982-9022 (cell).

With the new Reading Strategies class, D2 Center youth can earn elective credit, improve reading and literacy skills, and get help with other current English, Social Studies, or other classes involving reading and writing. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to improve your literacy skills!
