The D2 Center partnered with the Omaha Public Schools (OPS) this summer in June and July and is offering three classes to D2 Center students and a few other OPS students who are trying to graduate. All the classes are taught remotely utilizing Zoom meetings, cell phone, and email. Twenty-nine students are taking 41 classes including an English elective and a new D2 Center elective, “Navigating Your Future.” The English elective is taught by Jodie Martinez and Kathy Kocsis. Navigating Your Future is taught by Ms. Martinez and Clem Bell. Special units in this new class are taught by math teacher Terry Kocsis and D2 Center Career Navigators John Moore and Bette Norton Ball. All D2 Center teachers are Nebraska-certified. Many of the students are also taking virtual classes through OPS. Best wishes to these students to earn as many credits as possible this summer!
Congratulations to these D2 Center students who earned scholarships for college this spring! We are so proud of you, your hard work and perseverance.
Huge congratulations are in order! These graduates earned their diplomas this past spring — despite all the complications and difficulties brought by COVID-19. Even before the pandemic, these D2 Center students overcame various — often multiple — barriers, then were able to complete high school and ultimately (and virtually) walk across that commencement stage. We are so proud of you, your hard work, and your persistence!
The heart of the D2 Center mission is to re-engage struggling high school students and provide support as they make progress towards their high school diploma. Our philosophy is that helping to increase student access to educational opportunities and academic success leads not only to personal satisfaction and long-term benefits for the student, but also to a stronger, healthier community overall.
Please join us in this local day of giving. We’re still serving our students, who struggle in the best of times, and have even celebrated a few graduations! But these students need us now more than ever. We are staying true to our mission and are supporting our students and their families, connecting them with resources they need most.
