Our new YAN Spotlight series is an extension of our “Meet the Staff” series of posts where we follow up with our Youth Academic Navigators since the last time they were featured on the blog.
Since 2011, 365 D2 Center students have earned their high school diploma. We celebrate each graduate by putting their photo up on our wall of graduates. This past spring, we filled up our original graduate wall, so co-director Greg Emmel constructed a new wall so that we can continue our tradition as new graduates are added.
As a Reengagement Center, one of the primary goals of the D2 Center is to do outreach to students who have withdrawn from school but are eligible to reenroll. This effort complements our work of supporting students who are in the process of disengaging from school or are off track to graduate on time. Since the fall of 2016, the Omaha Public Schools (OPS) / D2 Center Services Agreement allows the D2 Center to work in partnership with the district to reengage students. The D2 Center is provided “dropout lists” and basic student information for this task.
After-school tutoring begins at the D2 Center on Thursday, September 5, 2019. Please join us for assistance in math, reading, and more. See below for details, and please call 402-502-8534 with any questions.
Huge congrats to these graduates for finishing up and earning their diplomas this summer! These D2 Center students overcame various — often multiple — barriers, then were able to complete high school and ultimately walk across that commencement stage. We are so proud of you, your hard work, and your persistence!
