Jodie is the newest D2 Center staff member and she’s team teaching two elective credit classes at the D2 Center this summer with Ms. Clem Bell. Ms. Martinez just completed a 32-year career with the Omaha Public Schools—all as an English teacher at Central High. The past 17 years she served as English Department Head and for the past 3 years she also helped coordinate English instruction with the International Baccalaureate Program at Central. Jodie is a Buffett award-winning teacher with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from UNO. She has a son who will be attending UNO this fall and a daughter who will be a senior at Central. Following her teaching assignment this summer, Jodie will be assisting the D2 Center staff with special projects.
Congratulations to these graduates for earning their high school diploma spring semester! These D2 Center students had to overcome various obstacles before achieving the crucial milestone of graduation. We are so proud of you, your hard work, and your persistence!
This June marks the launch of OPS Blackburn Alternative High School counselor Dr. Suzi Yokley-Busby’s brainchild, the Champions’ Club, in partnership with D2 Center Career Navigators Bette Norton Ball and John Moore. Blackburn students who will be seniors this fall are meeting daily with various professionals in the community to experience life-changing stories and opportunities to inspire them to graduate from high school and move on to postsecondary education and careers.
