What is a YAN? A Youth Academic Navigator!

by | Jun 13, 2012 | General

One of the most important elements of the D2 Center program is the YAN, short for Youth Academic Navigator. A YAN is an advocate for the student who connects with them frequently to see how they are doing academically, specifically checking in on credit accrual, attendance, and progress towards a high school diploma.

The YAN offers encouragement and support, helping to keep the student engaged in their school efforts. The YAN also serves as a resource for questions the student may have, whether related to education or other areas of their life. The idea behind the YAN is to provide each D2 Center student with a supportive, caring adult who can help guide them through their educational re-engagement and assist them in overcoming any obstacles that may arise.

Each D2 Center student is assigned a YAN as part of their participation in our program. The D2 Center partners with community agencies Boys & Girls Club of the Midlands and Eastern Nebraska Community Action Partnership (ENCAP) to provide YANs for our students. Special thanks to BGCM and ENCAP for their partnership in making the YAN program a reality for our students.
